Yeah this is my bed. T.M.I., I know. But I just did a bed
makeover and wanted to share with you how to make your bed feel like a
million bucks and look good while being budget conscious. These ideas
are all low cost, even free! Take notes. I saved over $800. HELLO!
1. Sheets – It’s not so much about thread count, although that does
play part. More important, you should look for the type of fabric your
sheets are made from. When shopping at discount stores, which I highly
recommend, look for Egyptian Cotton—no matter the thread count you will
be happy. I got a great set for $35.00 at Ross that retails for
$200.00. It’s worth the search.
2. Padding - Buy a
mattress pad or feather bed or both. Either one of these products are
a must. They eliminate you feeling any imperfections or crevices of
your mattress like buttons and deep pockets. They are also very
hygienic when it comes to keeping a mattress fresh. I found a great
deal at Linen Outlet for $39.99. Thanks Laura!
3.
Comforter - The smaller the ply stitching the better. Pay attention to
the material to make sure you don’t have any allergies to the filling.
Add a duvet cover and you are ready for some good sleep. A good
comforter will cost a little more, but it's worth the investment.
4.
Pillows – Pay attention to the fill and the type of pillow. If you
sleep on your back, you’ll need a flatter pillow. If you sleep on your
side, use something more plush to support your neck. The more the
better. Take note of the size pillow you buy. A standard pillow is
much smaller than a queen-sized pillow.
5. Coverlet – The
easiest way to make your bed look and feel good is to invest in a nice
coverlet, sometimes referred to as a quilt. It’s a functional and
decorative finishing detail. I found a great one at Marshall’s for $29
bucks in white. A little secret about coverlets is that no matter how
sloppy you make your bed, your coverlet will make it all come together.
6.
Iron - Ever try ironing your sheets for that added comfort level? It
makes a difference. (Take note: my pic above was after two nights, so
they are a little wrinkled.)
7. Pillow Mist - Use a pillow mist. Lavender is a great scent that calms and relaxes.
8. Decorate - Add decorative pillows that compliment your colors scheme or add a burst of color. Avoid being all matchy-matchy.
9. A Throw - Add a soft throw for those midday naps.
10. Make Up Your Bed! – Every morning. You'll go to bed happy every night.
What makes your bed special? We all wanna know!
Wow! Your bed looks like Marriott's (lol) nice and comfy and don't wanna leave it. I also think that you do have to spend a little money but not necessarily break the bank in order to have a good bed and achieve a good night's rest. I think the part that makes Marriott's bed's so comfortable is the same format you have: the sheets, the padding, the pillows, the down feather comforter, & etc... People usually sleep on crappy pillows & that irks me. I believe that if you are going to have a crappy ensemble of a bed, you at least have to have a good pillow! I agree that lavender is very relaxing; however, I don't like the smell (yeah, I know, it's weird). I prefer Black Currant Vanilla from Bath & Body Works a few deep inhalations (if that's a word...lol) of that stuff while you are bathing or showering is soooo soothing. Last but not least, making up the bed is a MUST! Momma always told us, "You can not leave the house unless your bed is made." It's just something about approaching a made-up bed that makes it that much more enjoyable to jump into.
